Begin at the threshold
Show the project team the doorway and existing landing. Discuss how the walkway will approach them and which existing features will remain. Have the relevant grades, dimensions and requirements established for the actual property.
Include the full gate movement
Open the gate during the site review and explain how it is used. Ask how the proposed surface and surrounding grade relate to that movement. If fencing or a gate needs alteration, identify the work and responsibility in the scope.
Resolve changes between surfaces
A new paver route may meet a driveway, patio, steps or lawn. Review each connection on the plan rather than leaving the final edge to assumption. Ask which materials and finishing details are included at those boundaries.
Consider household routines during construction
If the work affects a commonly used entrance, discuss temporary access with the contractor before work begins. Explain delivery and household routines so the team can identify practical arrangements and communicate any changes.
Walk the connected route at handoff
Review the work from the door to its destination with the project team. Discuss any outstanding item and obtain the relevant care information. Keep the agreed plan and final records together for future work in the yard.
